Description:
Blue Agave is a succulent native to the arid regions of Mexico. It has long, fleshy, blue-gray leaves with sharp spines along the edges and at the tip. The plant forms a large rosette and can reach up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) in height and 12 feet (3.6 meters) in diameter.

Uses:

  • Tequila Production: The core (piña) is harvested, cooked, and fermented to produce tequila. The sap contains high levels of sugars (especially fructans), making it ideal for distillation.

  • Agave Syrup: The sap can also be processed into a sweetener.

  • Ornamental Use: Blue Agave is also grown as a striking landscape plant in xeriscaping.

Growth Conditions:

  • Sunlight: Full sun.

  • Soil: Well-draining, sandy or rocky soil.

  • Watering: Drought-tolerant; water sparingly.

  • Temperature: Thrives in warm, arid climates but is sensitive to frost.

  • Propagation: Primarily through pups (offshoots) or seed.
