Description

Neoregelia ‘Avalon’ – Rich Tropical Color in a Sculptural Rosette

Neoregelia ‘Avalon’ is an exceptionally colorful bromeliad with the bold foliage and beautifully symmetrical growth that make Neoregelias such outstanding tropical plants. Its broad leaves form a dense, architectural rosette with shades of coral red, rose, and burgundy complemented by pale silvery-white highlights and margins.

The center of the rosette retains contrasting fresh green tones, creating a beautiful transition into the surrounding red foliage. Color intensity can vary with maturity, growing conditions, season, and light exposure, making each plant naturally unique.

Unlike plants grown primarily for their flowers, Neoregelias provide their strongest ornamental display through their foliage. Their small flowers develop deep within the central cup, while the colorful rosette remains the main attraction.

Neoregelia ‘Avalon’ is an excellent choice for tropical landscapes, shaded patios, decorative containers, bromeliad collections, and bright indoor spaces. Mature plants may also produce pups around the base, gradually developing into an attractive cluster.

🌿 Plant Features

  • Striking coral-red to rosy burgundy foliage
  • Broad leaves arranged in a sculptural rosette
  • Beautiful pale and silvery-white foliage accents
  • Contrasting green central cup
  • Excellent ornamental color without relying on flowers
  • Produces offsets or “pups” as it matures
  • Excellent for containers, patios, tropical gardens, and bromeliad collections

☀️ Light

Provide bright filtered light or bright indirect light for strong growth and attractive coloration. Good light encourages richer foliage color, but intense midday or afternoon sun can scorch the leaves. Plants grown outdoors should be protected from excessive direct sun unless gradually acclimated.

💧 Water

Keep a small amount of fresh water in the central rosette or “cup,” refreshing it regularly to prevent stagnant water. Water the growing medium as needed, allowing good drainage and avoiding continuously waterlogged conditions.

💦 Humidity

Neoregelia ‘Avalon’ appreciates moderate to high humidity with good air circulation. Warm, humid tropical conditions are ideal, but adequate airflow is important for maintaining healthy foliage.

🌱 Soil

Grow in a loose, airy, fast-draining bromeliad mix. The root system primarily anchors the plant, so heavy soils that remain saturated should be avoided.

🌡️ Temperature

Warm conditions are preferred. Protect from frost and prolonged cold temperatures. For best growth, maintain temperatures above approximately 50°F (10°C).

🌿 Fertilizing

Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted, balanced fertilizer. Bromeliads generally require much less fertilizer than many conventional foliage plants, and excessive feeding can negatively affect growth and coloration.

🌱 Growth Habit

Neoregelia ‘Avalon’ grows as a broad rosette and can produce pups around the mother plant as it matures. These offsets may be left together to create a fuller specimen or separated once sufficiently developed.

📦 What to Expect

You will receive a healthy, established Neoregelia ‘Avalon’. Because bromeliads naturally change coloration according to maturity, season, and growing conditions, the plant you receive may vary in color intensity and pattern from the specimen photographed.
