Quesnelia ‘Black Knight’ is a remarkable collector’s bromeliad celebrated for its extraordinarily dark foliage and strong architectural silhouette. Unlike the bright greens commonly associated with many bromeliads, ‘Black Knight’ develops glossy leaves in rich sepia-red, burgundy and nearly black tones.

The foliage forms a stocky, upright, vase-shaped rosette with flaring leaves and prominent dark marginal spines. Its intense coloration gives the plant a dramatic presence even when it is not flowering.

When mature and ready to bloom, the center of the rosette produces an erect inflorescence with brilliant ruby-red bracts and delicate pale mauve flowers, creating a spectacular contrast against the almost-black foliage.

‘Black Knight’ is regarded as a dark-leaved form associated with Quesnelia edmundoi var. rubrobracteata. Its unusual coloration, sculptural growth habit and brilliant flowering display make it particularly desirable among serious bromeliad collectors.

Like other tank-forming bromeliads, Quesnelia develops a central rosette capable of holding water. Mature plants may eventually produce offsets, or pups, around the base, allowing the plant to develop into an impressive colony over time.
