Description
Quesnelia tubifolia Leme & L. Kollmann
Genus: Quesnelia
Quesnelia tubifolia Leme & L. Kollmann is an exceptionally rare bromeliad species native to the Atlantic Forest of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This species was only relatively recently described in scientific literature, making it a true collector’s find and very difficult to source in cultivation.
📏 Size Note (Please Read):
This species is naturally compact even at maturity. The plant offered is a mature or near-mature specimen within this species’ normal size range. Its smaller stature is part of what makes it especially desirable for collectors.
What makes this species stand out is its distinct tubular rosette structure, formed by tightly arranged, elongated leaves that create a vertical, almost sculptural form. When in bloom, it produces a striking pink to reddish inflorescence that rises elegantly from the center, adding a bold tropical accent.
In its natural habitat, it grows as an epiphyte on tree branches, often in higher canopy layers where humidity and airflow are consistent. This gives it both resilience and adaptability when grown in the right conditions.
🌿 Care Guide
Light:
Bright indirect light to partial sun. Can tolerate some gentle morning sun, which may enhance coloration and overall vigor.
Water:
Keep the central cup lightly filled with clean water and refresh regularly. Water the growing medium lightly, allowing it to dry slightly between watering.
Humidity:
Prefers moderate to high humidity (60–90%), but can adapt to typical indoor conditions with proper care.
Airflow:
Good airflow is important, especially since this species naturally grows in elevated, breezy environments.
Soil / Mounting:
Best grown in a very well-draining mix (orchid bark, perlite, and light organic matter) or mounted to mimic its natural epiphytic habit.
Temperature:
Ideal range is 65–90°F. Protect from temperatures below 45°F.
Growth Habit:
Forms a tubular rosette and produces offsets (pups) over time, allowing the plant to gradually form a small clump.
Fertilizer:
Use a diluted balanced fertilizer during the growing season for best results.
