Description:
Guzmania ‘Ice Cream’ is a sweet tropical delight with soft, pastel tones that live up to its name. 🌿 Care Guide for Guzmania ‘Ice Cream’
Light:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, especially during midday, as it can scorch the leaves. Ideal for rooms with filtered light or near east- or north-facing windows.
Water:
Keep the central cup (or “tank”) filled with fresh, filtered water, and flush it regularly to prevent stagnation. Water the soil lightly when it feels dry. Guzmanias are sensitive to hard tap water—rainwater or distilled is ideal.
Humidity:
Thrives in high humidity (50%+). Mist regularly or place near a humidifier, especially in dry indoor environments.
Temperature:
Loves warmth! Keep in 65–85°F. Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 55°F.
Soil:
Use a well-draining orchid or bromeliad mix. Never let it sit in soggy soil.
Fertilizer:
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, water-soluble fertilizer (¼ strength) applied to the tank or soil.
Flowering:
The flower spike can last for several months. After blooming, the mother plant will slowly decline while producing pups (baby plants) at the base. These can be separated and potted once they are about one-third the size of the mother.
