🌴 Copernicia cowellii – A Rare Miniature Palm with Timeless Cuban Character

Native to the serpentine savannas of Camagüey Province in eastern Cuba, Copernicia cowellii is one of the smallest and most unique members of the genus. This extremely slow-growing palm forms a single trunk crowned with large, rounded fan leaves that display a beautiful contrast — a fresh, blue-green surface above and a waxy, grey-silver underside below.

The short petioles give the crown a dense, compact, highly architectural look. Over time, the palm naturally forms a “skirt” of dry leaves beneath the crown, giving it a dramatic, textured silhouette seen in classic Caribbean landscapes.

Despite its small stature (usually under 2 m / ~7 ft when fully mature), the plant has an unmistakable presence — once seen, it is never forgotten. A favorite among collectors of rare palms, xeric species, and ultra-slow growers.
