Neoregelia ‘Wild Rabbit Green’ is an uncommon and exceptionally colorful bromeliad distinguished by luminous lime-green foliage covered in dramatic burgundy-red horizontal banding. Closely associated in cultivation with the familiar ‘Wild Rabbit’, this green form offers a remarkably different appearance by replacing the classic creamy marginal variegation with uninterrupted green foliage.

The broad, slightly arching leaves form a full tropical rosette, creating a brilliant green canvas for irregular burgundy to deep red bars, streaks, and broken cross-bands. No two leaves develop exactly the same pattern, giving each plant a wonderfully unpredictable, almost hand-painted character.

Without contrasting cream margins competing for attention, the dark horizontal markings become the defining feature of ‘Wild Rabbit Green’. Against the bright lime to chartreuse-green foliage, they create an almost tiger-striped effect that becomes increasingly dramatic as the plant develops good color.

Care Guide

Light: Provide bright, filtered light for the strongest coloration and compact growth. Good light helps intensify the burgundy-red markings against the bright green foliage. Protect from sudden exposure to harsh midday sun, especially when the plant has been grown under shade.

Water: Like other tank-forming Neoregelias, ‘Wild Rabbit Green’ naturally holds water within its central rosette. Keep some fresh water in the central cup during warm, active growth and periodically flush and replace it. Water the growing medium as needed while allowing excess moisture to drain freely.

Soil: Grow in a loose, airy, fast-draining bromeliad mix. Good drainage and airflow around the root system are more important than rich soil. Avoid dense or continuously saturated growing media.

Temperature: Prefers warm tropical to subtropical conditions. Protect from frost and prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is beneficial when accompanied by good air circulation.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth using a diluted, balanced fertilizer. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can encourage overly soft growth and reduce foliage coloration.
