Description:
Tillandsia xerographica is the queen of the air plants—sculptural, silvery, and serene. Native to arid regions of Central America, this slow-growing epiphyte forms a dramatic rosette of wide, curly, silver-green leaves that twist and drape like ribbons. With age, it can reach over 12 inches wide, making it a standout specimen in any collection.
When mature, it produces a spectacular, long-lasting inflorescence with blush-pink to red bracts and yellow to chartreuse tubular flowers. The bloom can last for months, and although it’s not notably fragrant, its architectural form more than makes up for it.

☀️ Light Requirements:
Bright, indirect light is best. Outdoors, it thrives in dappled shade or morning sun. Indoors, place it near an east- or south-facing window with plenty of filtered light. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun, which may burn the leaves.
💧 Watering:
Tillandsia xerographica is drought-tolerant and requires less frequent watering than most air plants due to its thick, trichome-covered leaves.
- Soak the plant in room-temperature water for 20–30 minutes every 10–14 days.
- Shake off excess water and allow it to dry completely within 4 hours to prevent rot.
- In high humidity, mist occasionally instead of soaking.
💨 Air Circulation:
Excellent air circulation is essential. Avoid enclosed or stagnant environments.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity:
- Ideal temperature range: 50°F to 90°F (10°C to 32°C)
- Protect from frost
- Tolerates lower humidity than most air plants, but occasional misting helps in very dry environments.
🌸 Flowering & Lifespan:
Xerographica is a monocarpic plant—it blooms once in its lifetime, then slowly begins to produce pups (offsets) before eventually dying. The bloom is long-lasting, and with proper care, pups can be separated and grown into new plants.
🪴 Display Tips:
Mount it on driftwood, in a terrarium with good airflow, or simply display it in a decorative bowl. No soil required—just creativity.
