Neoregelia ‘Candelabra’ – Pink Variegated Bromeliad

Neoregelia ‘Candelabra’ is a spectacular foliage bromeliad prized for the brilliant interplay of color running through its long, graceful leaves. Rich olive to deep green margins frame longitudinal bands of cream and soft green, while vivid rose-pink coloration develops through the striped foliage, giving the entire rosette a beautifully illuminated appearance.

The effect is especially striking on mature plants, where the elongated leaves spread outward into an open, architectural rosette. Rather than relying on a showy flower spike for its display, ‘Candelabra’ offers lasting ornamental color through its foliage, making it a standout among colorful Neoregelias.

‘Candelabra’ is a hybrid of Neoregelia compacta × Neoregelia ampullacea. As with other Neoregelias, its small flowers develop low within the central cup rather than above the foliage on a tall inflorescence.

Color intensity naturally changes with light, maturity, season, and growing conditions. Plants grown in appropriate bright filtered light can develop particularly beautiful pink coloration while retaining the contrasting green and cream striping that gives this cultivar its distinctive character.

As the plant matures, it will naturally produce offsets, commonly called pups, around the mother rosette. These may be left attached to form an increasingly impressive cluster or separated once they have developed sufficiently.

Neoregelia ‘Candelabra’ Care Guide

Light: Bright filtered light to partial sun is ideal. Good light is important for developing strong pink coloration and maintaining the plant’s distinctive foliage pattern. Protect from intense, unacclimated midday and afternoon sun, which may scorch the leaves.

Water: Neoregelias naturally hold water in their central cup. Keep a small amount of clean water in the rosette and flush the cup regularly to prevent stagnant water and mineral buildup. Water the growing medium as needed, allowing it to remain lightly moist but never continuously saturated.

Soil: Use a loose, airy, fast-draining bromeliad mix that provides excellent drainage and airflow around the root system. Avoid dense soils that remain wet for extended periods.

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is preferred. Good air circulation is equally important, particularly in warm and humid environments.

Temperature: ‘Candelabra’ thrives in warm tropical and subtropical conditions. Protect the plant from frost, freezing temperatures, and prolonged exposure to cold weather.

Fertilizer: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted balanced fertilizer. Bromeliads require relatively little fertilizer, and excessive feeding can encourage overly soft growth or negatively affect foliage coloration.

Growth Habit: Forms an open, spreading rosette of elongated foliage. Mature plants naturally produce pups around the mother plant, eventually forming attractive clusters when offsets are allowed to remain attached.

Flowering: Small flowers develop within the central cup of a mature rosette. The primary ornamental feature of this cultivar is its exceptionally colorful foliage rather than its flowers.

Color: Pink coloration and variegation can vary considerably according to light exposure, maturity, season, and growing conditions. A plant may therefore display more or less pink, cream, or green than the representative plant photographed.

Each plant is individually grown and will naturally vary in size, shape, coloration, and variegation. Photos are representative of the variety unless the product is specifically listed as “One Of a Kind.”
